RAM PUNCHING

Ram punching is a specialist form of print finishing. Using a metal "cookie cutter" die, through which stacks of material are forced to create the desired paper shape.

Perfect Paper Shaping

Ram punching can be used in conjunction with a wide variety of creative print finishing techniques, to create perfect paper shapes. It is best suited to bold shapes with simple contours.

Usually it is used after other print finish work like binding, foiling and embossing and can be used with a wide range of substrates from board stock through to plastic.

Custom or Standard Shaped Paper and Card

We have a number of standard tools in stock for shaping everyday items such as credit cards and loyalty cards. If you’re looking for a more custom shape, we can advise you on any likely pitfalls certain shapes cause and source the tool for you.

Due to the nature of the process, Ram Punching is a very quick process, making it ideal for large runs of shaped products, like booklets and gift vouchers. We have experience of sequenced Ram Punching, if your project requires your product to be kept in a specific order.

Our Equipment – Busch Ram Punch

We use a top-of-the-range Busch Ram Punch. The Busch concept of punching has long been recognised for its precision and productivity.

Square-cut stacks of printed material are placed in the feed tray, between the die and the ram. When the ram is activated it pushes the stack of material through the die onto the delivery tray.

The maximum size is 230mm x 230mm and the minimum is 10mm x 10mm. The waste margin (2–3mm) is removed with the aid of a waste slitter blade, and falls down through the machine.
